Parents from Hackney sharing their experiences of the Rose Vouchers Project

On Tuesday 30thOctober we welcomed Alexandra Rose Charity supporters, old and new, to an afternoon tea event, kindly hosted by Artemis Charitable Foundation.

The event was an opportunity for us to reconnect with supporters from our charity’s long history, from those who collected donations from selling Alexandra Roses, to ex-Rose Ball committee members who organised the large Rose Balls held to raise funds for our charity in the years gone by.

Guests enjoyed a range of afternoon tea classics, from finger sandwiches to scones and cream, along with a generous selection of prepared fruit, to keep us on message.

We were fortunate to have two mums from one of our Hackney children’s centres able to attend the event and share their experiences of the Rose Vouchers Project with the other guests. Hearing first-hand the impact of providing our vouchers for fruit and veg for families and the difference this makes to their weekly budgets and ability to give their children healthy food was a highlight of the event.

The event also saw the launch of our brand new short film showcasing the work we do around the UK to deliver our mission of giving families access to fresh fruit and vegetables in their communities. You can watch our new film below:

To celebrate our 106 year history and the charity’s achievements over those years, we loaned items from the London Metropolitan Archives. Items on display included an original silk Alexandra Rose pin which would have been one of thousands sold in the 1920s to raise money for different welfare causes, along with a display of rose sellers photographs throughout the decades, a photograph of our Royal President HRH Princess Alexandra and two collecting tins also from the 20s.

Princess Alexandra was sadly unable to attend the afternoon tea, however kindly sent a personal message ahead of the event, saying how pleased she was that this “wonderful charity…has embraced its new purpose. Helping families to have a healthy diet is so important. I hope the charity continues to flourish.” A message which was warmly received by all the guests.
