Champions for Children

You can’t switch on the TV or open a newspaper at the moment without hearing all the awful ways people are being affected by the cost-of-living crisis. Families are being swamped by the rising tide of increased food prices, energy bills, fuel costs, rent, tax rises, and interest rates and are forced to make tough choices about what to feed their children.

We wanted to share with you a story that hit us hard last week. We don’t know Kathleen, she isn’t a parent that accesses our Rose Vouchers for Fruit and Veg Project, but her experience shows so clearly the thought process so many families have to go through when considering how they will feed their children right now. Please listen to Kathleen here.

Families like Kathleen’s should never be put in the position where fruit and veg are considered a luxury.

It cannot be right that any parent should need to make these kinds of decisions daily. This rapidly rising inflation squeezes families from all directions and has a devastating impact. For families on low incomes with young children, this is not just a cost-of-living crisis but a health crisis that could have a lifelong impact.

It’s vital young children get access to fresh, healthy food in their early years. Not having access to a healthy diet will affect their future life chances and set them up for future health problems. Parents only get one opportunity to give their children the healthiest possible start.

Our Rose Vouchers for Fruit and Veg Project can help. While we can’t solve the root causes of this crisis, we can ensure families are able to provide a healthy and nutritious diet for their children. Please consider helping us make this possible.

We’re taking part in The Childhood Trust’s Champions for Children campaign again this year. In partnership with The Big Give, all donations will be doubled between 12pm on the 14th and 12pm on the 21st of June.

Please save the date if you would like to help us support families who are being forced to make tough decisions about what they feed their children and have your donation doubled.
