TRANSFORMING HEALTH THROUGH NUTRITION
Our Fruit & Veg on Prescription projects, delivered in Tower Hamlets and Lambeth, enable GPs and social prescribing link workers to give weekly Rose Vouchers to people on low incomes with food-related health conditions.
PROVEN RESULTS
Since launching in 2022, nearly 200 residents have taken part in Fruit & Veg on Prescription. Findings from the first year show:
- 80% of participants now eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
- Nine in ten report improved health and wellbeing.
- Seven in ten have seen significant drops in blood pressure, confirmed by GPs and nurses.
- GP visits have fallen by 40%.
- Since the project began, £222,000 has been invested in the local economy.
REAL LIFE IMPACT
Participants also report better energy, digestion, and overall wellbeing. People tell us that taking part in the project has improved their diet, reduced isolation and boosted their confidence.
With fruit & veg consumption at its lowest in 50 years, especially among households on low incomes, we are calling for a national rollout of the Fruit & Veg on Prescription model. We have a scalable blueprint for tackling health inequalities, reducing pressure on the NHS and embedding prevention-focused care in communities.

Dr Saul Marmot, Bromley by Bow Health Centre GP, told us:
“Access to healthy food has a huge, lasting impact on people’s physical and mental health. We live in a society where it’s so cheap and easy to buy unhealthy food that the benefits of eating fruit & veg are not available to the poorest communities, who often need it the most.”
