Main Purpose of the Role

We’re looking for a creative Corporate and Community Fundraiser to join our growing team and lead on the development of corporate fundraising to help us achieve our ambitions to grow and scale our work.

In the summer of 2019, we published our new Five-Year Strategy for 2020/21 to 2024/25. This outlined our aim of growing from six projects to twelve by the end of the five years while increasing the number of families we support from 1,400 to 5,000 and growing our income to £1.5 million by 2025. To do this, we need to diversify our fundraising mix. We plan to do that by increasing our income from individuals and corporates as well as maintaining and developing our income from trusts and foundations.

The post holder will be a part of our fundraising and communications team and report to the Head of Fundraising and Communications.  As our Corporate and Community Fundraiser, you will help develop and implement our corporate and community fundraising strategy, develop new business, account manage new and existing corporate partners and provide first-class stewardship. You will thrive as part of a small but committed and ambitious team and have lots of opportunities to develop in the role and get involved in all aspects of fundraising at Alexandra Rose Charity, and you will contribute to ARC’s strategic goal to increase annual fundraising income to £1.5m by 2025. 

The post can either be home-based (the team currently works remotely) or, if preferred, from our Brighton office, where the charity’s main office is located. Travel may be required to London, Liverpool, Barnsley or Glasgow, where our projects are located and where corporate partners may be based. 

The post holder must be comfortable working in collaboration with a small team, partners and stakeholders and have great communication and relationship management skills. A structured and strategic approach to work and attention to detail will be essential to help support the charity’s growth over the coming years.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and planning

  • Work with the Head of Fundraising and Communications to develop the corporate fundraising strategy, contribute to wider strategy and develop annual operational plans.

New business development

  • Research prospects and network to develop new leads and contacts and manage a pipeline of prospects to help grow new business income and partnerships,  providing a synopsis of their company and corporate social responsibility history and prioritising companies to pursue.
  • Collaborating with our Trusts and Foundations Fundraising Consultant, take a lead role in researching potential corporate trusts and submit high-quality applications.
  • Develop mutually beneficial relationships, identify key decision makers and networks and contact warm and self-generated leads whilst keeping our prospect pipeline up to date.
  • Work with the Alexandra Rose Charity network, including staff and trustees, to find warm leads to research and approach.
  • New business acquisition – prepare applications, presentations, pitches and approaches to secure new corporate partnerships.
  • Encourage corporate supporters to support our Big Give campaigns.

Account Management

Build on our relationships with existing corporate partners to retain

  • To support Alexandra Rose Charity corporate supporters; providing and sustaining an excellent level of service to maximise income generation and meet agreed requirements
  • Partnership account management– Manage a portfolio of corporate partners, ensuring they have a first-class experience working with us, maximising their partnership potential, and hitting fundraising targets through expert relationship management and stewardship.
  • Partnership account support – managing all aspects of corporate account management, including creating reports, updates and activities that will further our relationships with our partners.
  • Write impactful reports on progress for corporate funders and keep them up to date with successes and challenges.

Stewardship

  • Support corporate partners and their employees with their fundraising, offering tailored stewardship to make them feel valued as individuals and as a vital part of the wider partnership.
  • Promote our work with corporate supporters through engaging social media content and website content.
  • Participate in organisation-wide thank-a-thons.

Community Fundraising

  • Work with the Head of Fundraising and Communications and the Individual Giving and Digital Fundraiser to develop and implement community fundraising activities that can be promoted to corporate teams to increase engagement and provide more ways for them to engage with us.
  • Assist with the development and promotion of community fundraising resources.

Administration

  • To take responsibility for dealing with unsolicited corporate enquiries and responding appropriately.
  • To acknowledge corporate supporter donations and encourage continued support of Alexandra Rose Charity.
  • To maintain the database ensuring all administration related to corporate and community activity is kept up to date.
  • Any other activity as appropriate to the role and the needs of the organisation.

Person Specification

Knowledge and skills (essential)

  • We’re looking for someone with at least 2 years of experience managing all aspects of corporate fundraising within a charity (including developing new business, account management and stewardship) or someone with equivalent experience from the corporate sector.
  • A strong track record of securing and increasing income from corporates and their employees, including developing new relationships and partnerships.
  • Excellent research skills to find new corporate supporters, assess their propensity to give and create a corporate fundraising pipeline.
  • Excellent, impactful written skills and ability to write fundraising applications to corporate trusts and impactful progress reports.
  • Proven ability to research, write and deliver presentations and pitches to win new business.
  • An excellent understanding of stewardship and demonstrable experience of providing first-class stewardship to corporate donors and their employees.
  • Ability to contribute to and implement a stewardship strategy with the rest of the fundraising and communications team.
  • A broad understanding of all types of fundraising and the ability to identify prospects interested in or who have the potential for other fundraising areas, e.g., individual giving, major donors, legacies, and community fundraising.
  • Ability to use social media to engage corporate and community audiences, including writing compelling copy, case studies and newsletters. Plus working with the rest of the team to develop social media assets and content.
  • Demonstrable experience using a fundraising CRM such as Donorfy or similar to record all research into potential donors and build a corporate donor pipeline.  
  • Good understanding of the relevant fundraising codes of practice, GDPR, the Data Protection Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Personable, persuasive, great with people and comfortable working with large corporates and small, local businesses.
  • Committed to your own professional development and willing to learn and grow in the role.

Knowledge and skills (desirable):

  • A relevant professional qualification such as the Institute of Fundraising (IoF) Certificate in Fundraising or Diploma in Fundraising
  • Experience of working on successful Big Give campaigns or other match-funded campaigns.
  • Experience of gaining support from small businesses and sole traders through Work for Good
  • Knowledge of food & health issues and how inequality affects access to a healthy diet
