OUR JOURNEY

Alexandra Rose has been supporting communities for over a hundred years.

Here are some of our highlights:

1912: Queen Alexandra held the first Rose Day, inspired by a Danish priest, who sold silk roses to support people living in poverty. Volunteers in London sold thousands of silk roses to raise money so hospitals could treat people who couldn’t afford healthcare.

2014: We shifted our focus to tackling food poverty, and Rose Vouchers were born. The first voucher was spent in Hackney, London.

AUGUST 2019: We hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace with our President, Princess Alexandra

MARCH 2020: We navigated delivering Rose Voucher projects during the Covid-19 pandemic

MARCH 2021: Rose Vouchers launched in Glasgow, with support from community food activist, David Cairns

OCT 2021: Our one millionth Rose Voucher was honoured by the Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham at North End Road Market

MAY 2022: We launched Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg in Tower Hamlets

JUNE 2023: Our two millionth Rose Voucher was spent at Barnsley Markets, and we celebrated with Rose Voucher families

NOV 2023: Bridging the Gap was launched in Tower Hamlets, giving families access to organic fruit & veg at affordable prices at the Teviot Centre Food Co-op

JAN 2024: We were chosen as a Big Issue Top 100 Changemaker for 2024

JUNE 2024: We celebrated the three millionth Rose Voucher being spent by a family in Glasgow, the culmination of a decade of impact

NOV 2024: CEO, Jonathan Pauling appeared on the Doctor’s Kitchen podcast with Dr Rupy Aujla to talk about the importance of fruit & veg in our diets. Click to listen to the full episode

JAN 2025: The impact of Rose Vouchers was recognised in Parliament when Ben Coleman MP shared how our work in Chelsea & Fulham in helping to meet their five-a-day target

OCTOBER 2025: New CEO, Corin Bell joins the charity
